Hello, my name is Christian. I am a student who is currently attending the College of Southern Nevada (CSN). This would mark my second semester, and this semester is a little more difficult than the last one due to the classes being a little more complex and instead of taking two classes I am currently taking three. I know it's not much, but it makes a difference when having to be a father of three children, a husband, and a responsible employee. Besides school, work, and being human, I enjoy watching anime, going out to different food spots, and gardening.
My first impression of IS101 was, "Wow, I really don't know how to use my computer properly and the software that is available to me." Honestly, I thought I would be doing only Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, but I am glad I am learning much more than that.
1.4.11 Encryption and Authentication
(a) I used authentication skills to change a few passwords I had that were similar to each other and made them more secure because I realized that they might have been bad passwords, and I didn't want to make it easy for the cybercriminals. I also now keep a few important passwords in a safe I have with other important documents with only a trusted person to know the combination.
(b) I also learned about sites using HTTPS and how they are encrypted and not to put sensitive information in HTTP because it just sends your information in plain text.
Second semester at CSN and taking three classes (one more than your first semester) while being a father to three children, a husband, and a responsible employee? You will succeed this semester and future semesters :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, IS101 is more than just Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You are off the a strong start in IS101-3205, Spring 2025, Christian ^_^
Similar so it's easy for you = easy for bad actors. Glad you realized it. Keeping a few important passwords in a safe where you store other important documents with only a trusted person to know the combination, excellent!
Hey Christian! Balancing school, work, and family is no easy task, but you’re handling it like a pro. You’ve got this! IS101 is definitely more than I expected too, but it’s great to see how much we’re learning already. And I agree keeping passwords secure is so important. Looking forward to tackling this semester together! ^-^
ReplyDeleteHi Christian! Don't sell yourself short! Being a father, husband, and employee is a lot of work by itself. Adding the fact that you are dedicated enough and willing to continue your education is so great. Keep it up!
ReplyDeletePassword security is so important and I'm glad you changed your passwords to keep them secure. I also add two factor authentication to each of my accounts which allows me to access a code to confirm my log in each time. It adds just a little bit of extra peace of mind that all my accounts are safe.
Wow Christian! Keep up the hard work because your children will see it and know they have a great role model as a father. I have kids my self and a fulltime job, so I completely understand how much work you are putting in. I learned about encrypting emails at work because at times they contain sensitive information and like you said, we don't wanna make it easy for cybercriminals.
ReplyDeleteHello Christian! It was great reading your blog post and about me section. Being a student while working, and raising a family is no easy task all together. I am certain your family is very proud of you, so keep up the good work! I enjoy watching anime and checking out different food spots as well! I hope to see your recommendations of shows to watch and eateries to check out in future blog posts. That was also a great skill that you shared of encryption and authentication. I always look out to make sure the website I am visiting has HTTPS in the web address, especially when I am logging into my bank account as an example.
ReplyDeleteHi Christian, I can totally relate to your struggle with managing everything; being a father, a husband, an employee, and a student at the same time is definitely a lot, I know that firsthand! It’s awesome that you're learning so much in IS101, and it’s great that you're improving your security with better passwords. I didn’t know much about encryption and HTTPS either before this class, so it’s cool to see how much we’re learning. Keep up the good work with balancing everything. You’re doing amazing!
ReplyDeleteHello Christian, it is not easy juggling college with work and raising a family. Give it some time to find the right balance and the flow to execute all perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI was also surprised to know what HTTP and HTTPS meant and the difference between them. When uploading sensitive information, it gives peace of mind to know the exact difference.
Hey Christian!
ReplyDeleteBeing a working father while going to school is no easy feat—not everyone can juggle both at the same time, so give yourself the credit you deserve! You’re human, and an inspiration to others.
My reaction to IS101 was the same! But I’m glad we’ll all be tackling this course together with our classmates.
I was also surprised about the “HTTPS” thing! Not only has it helped me, but I was even able to share it with my mom, who loves surfing the internet.
Hey Christian,
ReplyDeleteI applaud you for everything you're doing going to school, working, and taking care of your family. It is not easy, but the payoff at the end will be worth it. I am also from California, and my family and I moved out here for a better living situation. I am happy to say we are much happier here, even though sometimes we miss some of the food and greenery.
Man, the dedication to support your family on top of school is amazing. I can only imagine the pressure you can get under sometimes, but at the end of the day this will all be worth it!
ReplyDeleteHi Christian,
ReplyDeleteYou definitely juggle a lot! Like you, I have a lot on my plate so I understand your situation. I find it hard sometimes to step away from my daily routine and find time to do homework. Not sure if you struggle with the same thing? If so, any tips you may have are greatly appreciated.
I also had the same expression, I thought I knew computers and their programs but boy was I wrong. I look forward to learning along side you in IS 101. Thank you for the movie recommendation, it is definitely a food for thought film.
I wish you nothing but success in your future!
Hey Christian,
ReplyDeleteBalancing school, work, and family life as a father of three is no small feat—props to you for pushing forward! IS101 sounds like a real eye-opener, and it’s great that you're gaining valuable skills beyond just Microsoft programs.
Updating your passwords for better security was a smart move! Many overlook how easy weak passwords can be exploited. Also, your takeaway about HTTPS vs. HTTP is crucial—small details like that make a big difference in online safety.
Keep up the great work, and best of luck with your studies!
Hey Christian,
ReplyDeleteI totally feel your pain with having kids, well I have my 1st and hes a newborn, but having to be a parent and juggle work and school and not get way too overwhelmed. But I am here to tell you to stay focused and keep your mind looking at the positive. I just had to tell myself that even if I was doing 1 class, it may not seem like you're doing enough, but you're STILL in college and working towards a better future.
Hello Christian,
ReplyDeleteI was also pleasantly surprised with the amount of different topics we are covering in IS101. I went in with the much different expectations, but I am happy with the different challenges that are presented.
Hi Christian, your story is very inspiring. Having a family, a career, as well as school. I am also an anime enthusiast. IS101 has helped me learn about how to operate a computer, which is helpful for me now since I recently got myself a pc. You make a great point about making passwords less easy to be hacked into.
ReplyDeleteHello Christian, being an adult can be challenging especially if you’re bettering yourself, taking care of bills, and taking care of a loving family. The end goal is what keeps us moving, you’re a step closer just by adding an extra class to your schedule. I myself am from Southern California and I also left because it was getting too packed and expensive. I wanted to live alone but couldn’t afford it, so I moved here in 2017. Unfortunately, after Covid-19 Vegas became full, traffic, and housing went up. No offense Vegas is not that pretty, it reminds me of Fallout New Vegas, so dry and for these prices it’s not worth it. Which is why I will be relocating to another state as soon as I get the chance.
ReplyDeleteHi Christian,
ReplyDeleteA lot of people from California are moving to Las Vegas. I was born in Las Vegas and have seen the city grow. I will probably move because Las Vegas is not what it used to be when I was growing up. I miss the tranquility.
Hi Christian! That's so cool that you like anime and gardening, I do too! What anime is your favorite? Mine has to be Death Note and Attack On Titan. I also think gardening is really rewarding, it is a good connection to nature and can produce so much! Do you grow any fruits or veggies or do you stick to flowers and plants?
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of Death Note, it is also one of my favorites of all time because of how psychological and dark the anime can get during certain scenes. I know Attack on Titan is very popular, but I haven’t seen it yet. Honestly, I have a few like Baki, Hunter x Hunter, Akira, Hell’s Paradise, Solo Leveling, Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, and the whole Gundam series. But if I had to choose, it would be Gundam and Solo Leveling. Have you seen any of these?
DeleteI do find gardening rewarding as well. I started gardening to have a Zen space for myself, but then I went a little too overboard with the number of indoor plants I had. It’s mainly plants and some flowers. I have never tried growing fruit, but I’ve always been interested in trying to grow it indoors in a controlled environment.
